I highly recommend it。 。。。more

I always enjoy visiting Nantucket through the writings of Nancy Thayer。 This summer's read focuses on Eleanor and her family as they all transition to new lives and new ways of being。 As always it's a fun summer read to visit with Thayer's characters and I felt that Eleanor was most fully realized in terms of being a distinct person of a certain age with the self-knowledge that her daughter didn't possess。 The story of her granddaughter Ari was a bit more idealized and I rankled a bit at the pri I always enjoy visiting Nantucket through the writings of Nancy Thayer。 This summer's read focuses on Eleanor and her family as they all transition to new lives and new ways of being。 As always it's a fun summer read to visit with Thayer's characters and I felt that Eleanor was most fully realized in terms of being a distinct person of a certain age with the self-knowledge that her daughter didn't possess。 The story of her granddaughter Ari was a bit more idealized and I rankled a bit at the privilege of Ari as she faced her challenges。 That said, I still enjoyed reading the multi-generational story as will regular Thayer readers。 Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy。 。。。more

This was a great women’s fiction book。 Set in Nantucket it follows a dysfunctional family who have lived here for generations as they go through trials and tribulations。 I loved the matriarch of the family and her granddaughter。 If you are a fan of Thayer you will enjoy this book。

I love books that take place in Nantucket。 Kansas City is about as far from the ocean as you can get in this country, so it all seems magical for me。 There is plenty of Nantucket feels in this book, from the waves crashing and the storms rolling in to strolling along the small town and buying ice cream cones。 Then there is the actual family drama。 Eleanor is the matriarch of the family and lives in her Nantucket home that has been in her family for something like five generations。 The first part I love books that take place in Nantucket。 Kansas City is about as far from the ocean as you can get in this country, so it all seems magical for me。 There is plenty of Nantucket feels in this book, from the waves crashing and the storms rolling in to strolling along the small town and buying ice cream cones。 Then there is the actual family drama。 Eleanor is the matriarch of the family and lives in her Nantucket home that has been in her family for something like five generations。 The first part of the drama comes in the form of her daughter and son wanting her to sell the house so they can get their share of the money (millions)。 The daughter is a really obnoxious woman。 Her daughter, Ari (Eleanor's granddaughter) has all the love for Eleanor that Eleanor's own daughter doesn't seem to have。 There's family drama with almost every character。 The high point of this book for me was the relationship between Eleanor and Ari。 Everybody should have that soft place they can always return to when life is dumping on them and they were that soft place for each other。 It was really sweet。I was given a complimentary copy of this book。 All thoughts are my own。 。。。more

Nancy Thayer books are always a good light read。 I felt this one dealt with a few more serious issues than her usual stories。 It takes place on Nantucket and contains plenty of family drama。 Some of the issues you’ll read about are families dealing with an aging relative, the unpleasant side to money, a surprise pregnancy, several relationship problems, etc all while enjoying being at the beach on Nantucket。 Everything is tied up nicely by the end, which some may not like because real life isn’t Nancy Thayer books are always a good light read。 I felt this one dealt with a few more serious issues than her usual stories。 It takes place on Nantucket and contains plenty of family drama。 Some of the issues you’ll read about are families dealing with an aging relative, the unpleasant side to money, a surprise pregnancy, several relationship problems, etc all while enjoying being at the beach on Nantucket。 Everything is tied up nicely by the end, which some may not like because real life isn’t that way。 But overall I thought it was a good story and enjoyed reading it。 Plus I really loved the main character, Eleanor!Thank you to the author and publisher for an early readers copy in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more

As summer approaches the beach reads are coming in full force by our favorite authors。 It is not summer without Nancy Thayer in the mix。 A story of generations that will leave you smiling at the end。Eleanor Sunderland is the matriarch of her family。 Her children Alicia and Cliff want her to sell her grand house for very different reasons。 Alicia’s daughter, Ari, who recently graduated from college asks to move in with Eleanor over the summer before she leaves to go to graduate school。This book c As summer approaches the beach reads are coming in full force by our favorite authors。 It is not summer without Nancy Thayer in the mix。 A story of generations that will leave you smiling at the end。Eleanor Sunderland is the matriarch of her family。 Her children Alicia and Cliff want her to sell her grand house for very different reasons。 Alicia’s daughter, Ari, who recently graduated from college asks to move in with Eleanor over the summer before she leaves to go to graduate school。This book centers around Ari and Eleanor’s summer。 One in the twilight of her life and the other just starting out。 As with any Thayer novel there is lots of romance, complications and everything in between。 There is not a lot of substance to this book, however I just find these types of books wonderful。 This is coming upon my favorite time of year, every time you close a book you have a happy ending that leaves you smiling。Thank you NetGalley and Ballentine Books for an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

Who doesn't love a good book set in Nantucket? I think that's what drew me instantly to want to read it and I wasn't disappointed。 Widowed Eleanor is navigating life with 2 kids, 1 grandkid。 Her daughter Alicia selfish and entitled - I honestly want to slap some sense into her。 Her son Cliff is a gentleman and figuring his life out without trying to worry his mom。 Granddaughter Ari decides to spend the summer with Eleanor and their storyline brings the 2 of them closer than they already are。 Fam Who doesn't love a good book set in Nantucket? Nancy Thayer to me is the essence of summer。 Who doesn't love summer? Warm days, porch swings, beaches, swims, and long evenings。 Everyone is relaxed, happy and enjoying life。 The setting of Nantucket in her books is perfect。 Her writing lets the reader embody the characters。 We know what they are thinking, what they are feeling, what they contemplate and what guides their actions。 The reader feels like they are part of the story, or at least, want to be! In fact, this is Nancy Thayer #12 for me。This story is about the annual family reunion on magical Nantucket。 Eleanor Sunderland is about to celebrate her 70th birthday on June 3 and looking forward to her children and grandchildren arriving to celebrate。There is no doubt this story is a family drama and yep they are flying in all different direction! One of the stories is Ari, Eleanor’s granddaughter。Ari has just graduated college from Bucknell with a degree in Early Childhood Education additionally is about to marry Peter also a Bucknell grad。 In the fall they will live in the Boston area ~ she will attend a graduate program at BU and Peter will be a student in Harvard’s Law School。 However, as the date gets closer, Ari has to admit to herself that she really doesn’t want the life of a corporate lawyer’s wife, cocktail parties and social climbing and decides to break off her engagement。 Ouch! (Actually Peter said more than that!)Ari has always been close to her grandmother and believes this is the perfect time to save some money and also spend time with her grandmother。 She will find a job working with children and then have her own money for graduate school。 Hmmm Nantucket has other plans。 t(Personal Note: I also love to read Elin Hildebrand’s Nantucket stories。 One of her ttrademarks is to tell the story in different POV ~ one of which is the POV of the Island。)Yep there is a lot of family drama BTW: Loved the relationship between Ari and her Grand Mother as it was a total trip down memory lane for me。I had a fun relationship with my grandmother when I was young。。。 Vacationed with her every summer。 。。Learned to crochet ~ I am so so sad that it didn’t continue into my teens。Okay onto the next drama …。。Eleanor’s daughter, Alicia and son, Cliff know the house is in need of repairs。 Eleanor admits that Mortimer was never a DYI kind of guy。 They believe the Cliffside home is too much to deal with and she should sell it and move to a retirement community。 (They are aware that a developed in interested in the land and is willing to pay 15 million。)Hmm but that isn’t what Eleanor wants。 The home was her grandparents: she loves it and certainly doesn’t want to sell her home。 tDon’t want to give too much away but for me this was totally a ‘feel good’ story Want to thank NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group – Ballantine for this early release granted to me for a honest professional review。 Publishing Release Date scheduled for May 4, 2021 。。。more

Eleanor lives in her family home by the beach in Nantucket。 The house has been in the family for generations。 She’s in her 70’s now and widowed but she’s pretty happy with her life。 She’s especially happy that her granddaughter Ari is coming to spend the summer with her。 There’s no doubt that Eleanor is closer to Ari than anyone else in the family。 She loves her children Cliff and Alicia and feels that she always did right by them but she’s not that close to them。 I need to say that I definitely Eleanor lives in her family home by the beach in Nantucket。 The house has been in the family for generations。 She’s in her 70’s now and widowed but she’s pretty happy with her life。 She’s especially happy that her granddaughter Ari is coming to spend the summer with her。 There’s no doubt that Eleanor is closer to Ari than anyone else in the family。 She loves her children Cliff and Alicia and feels that she always did right by them but she’s not that close to them。 I need to say that I definitely would have enjoyed this book more if Alicia wasn’t so awful。 It’s hard for me to enjoy any time spent on a character who is just one sided and bad。 If there’s a redeeming quality in Alicia, it is minor。Alicia seems to care more about money than her mother。 Cliff finds out that Eleanor could sell her beloved home for $15 million dollars。 When Alicia learns this, her new mission in life is to get her mom to sell the house。 She, of course, expects her mom to split the money between her and Cliff。I just could not stand Alicia。 She isn’t in dire straights, she’s not barely hanging on, she’s just greedy。 She wants her mom to sell the house just so she can have more in life herself。Alicia is also having some troubles with her husband。 But that seems like less of a concern to her than the house。I really liked Ari, Eleanor’s granddaughter。 She has just graduated college and left her fiancée。 She wants to spend the summer with her grandmother before she starts graduate school。 She also devotes her working hours to a summer camp for children。I loved the setting。 Nantucket is always a wonderful place to set a story, especially a summery book。I really liked Eleanor too。 She’s always trying to help her family and she also knows it’s important that she’s happy too。This would be a good book to throw in your bag to take to the beach or to enjoy in your yard this summer。 I got to read an early ebook edition from NetGalley, thank you!
